Wipro-Newlogic offers Bluetooth 2.0 core, software

LONDON — Wipro-NewLogic (Lustenau, Austria), the semiconductor intellectual property (IP) business unit of Wipro Technologies Inc. (Bangalore, India) has been offering customers IP for a Bluetooth 2.0 plus extended data rate core. The offering covers the RTL for the Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR circuit and a software stack.

The Bluetooth 2.0+EDR architecture is upgradeable to Bluetooth 2.1+EDR by software and improves on the company's Bluetooth 1.2 IP, the company said.

Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR calls for a data transfer rate of 2.1-Mbit/s, three times the 721-kbit/s offered by Bluetooth 1.2. It therefore enables high definition stereo audio streaming, transfer of large files and fast synchronization. Wipro-NewLogic's Bluetooth baseband and software has been used with ARM, ARC and Leon processors in the past, the company said.

"We have licensed our Bluetooth 1.2 solution to a large number of customers worldwide and already a few of our customers have taped out their chip, integrating our Bluetooth 2.0+EDR baseband IP," said Franz Dugand, product marketing manager at Wipro-NewLogic.
