One of the trends I'm looking for at ESC this year is synergistic combinations of technologies that will really make wireless hum for consumers and businesses alike.
Case in point: G2 Microsystems using Wi-Fi to increase the functionality and decrease the cost of active RFID systems.
As you probably know, active RFID systems have a powered transceiver and other goodies whereas the passive RFID tags you see attached to clothing depend on the reader supplying the power.
By enabling the connection of RFID technology to the ever-growing Wi-Fi network, G2 Microsystems' G2C501 SoC will help system designers reduce the cost installation of asset tracking systems by about 75% compared to conventional technologies.
