UWB has been getting most of the attention as the wireless replacement for USB 2.0 connection but if your design needs more range than just the desktop, Icron's WLAN-based solution may be what you are looking for.
The WiRanger wirelessly extends USB 2.0 connections up to 30 meters, is driverless, plug and play and compatible with all devices on all operating systems. The first version of WiRanger implements the wireless connection with 802.11g but an 802.11n version is also being teed up, according to Icron CEO Robert Eisses.

The WiRanger gives PC (Windows, Linux, Unix) or Mac-OSX users the freedom to place all of their USB devices at distances up to 30m (100feet) within their home, office or commercial environment. This product has received global regulatory approval and is available through Icron's existing global network of distributors, resellers and OEM customers.
Most of Icron's expertise is in enhancing USB connections and a powerline version may also be in the offing down the road, Eisses says. In the meantime, the shorter-than-expected range of the UWB versions of wireless USB as sponsored by the WiMedia Alliance has created a competitive situation for 802.11 implementations.
The USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has pretty much committed itself to UWB implementations so don't look for official backing for the WLAN version or UWB wireless device interoperability for that matter. It is something to consider, however, for applications where a proprietary solution is appropriate.

This product will be the first in a growing family of Cable Free USB 2.0 solutions utilizing a variety of wireless technologies including UWB and 802.11a/b/g/n/ to meet different application requirements in the Industrial, Military, Pro-sumer, Medical and Commercial markets.
