XRONet is sampling a chipset consisting of a baseband MAC/PHY SoC and RF transceiver IC that it claims raises the bar on the performance to power ratio of Mobile WiMAX chipsets presently in the market.
The XRO7000 MAC/PHY SoC and XRO3000RF transceiver handle Mobile WiMAX Wave2 as well as Wave1 and WiBro.
XRO7000's distributed architecture with hardwired PHY and MAC engines, on-chip AD/DA, low power CPUs, and memories, and its dynamic power manager, minimize the chipset's power consumption.
XRO3000's MIMO-optimized direct conversion RF architecture raises the performance limit in TX/RX EVM, noise figure, phase noise, linear TX power, and dynamic range.
The hardwired 2x2 MIMO OFDMA engine provides spatial multiplexing that doubles the data rate, and space time coding that doubles cell range. The company's MIMO algorithm gives the ML (Maximum Likelihood) performance, the theoretical limit of Spatial multiplexing at the fraction of power consumption of conventional ML algorithms.
The chipset's optional 2 Transmitters can boost the capacity of uplink as well.
XRONet's chipset can be used in many applications including Mobile WiMax Wave2/Wave1/WiBro terminals, handheld devices such as smartphones, PDAs, mobile internet devices, UMPCs (Ultra mobile PCs), as well as USB dongles, PC cards, express cards, SDIO devices.
XRO7000 is a single chip Modem SoC that supports PUSC, FUSC, Band-AMC, 2x2 MIMO SM/STBC for Both Downlink/Uplink, Collaborative SM, Channel Sounding for Beamforming, HARQ, CC, CTC, ARQ, QoS, IPv4/v6, PKMv2, UICC, EAP/AKA, Sleep/Idle, and HO optimization.
It provides a variety of host interfaces including Notebook PC, PDA, Smartphone, Portable Media Player, portable game console, Car Navigation systems, etc.
XRO3000 is a single chip RF Transceiver IC integrating a PLL, LNAs, Mixers, VGAs, Drive Amp, Low pass filters, and auto-calibration of DC/IQ offset, and multiple chains for MIMO. It supports multi-bands from 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz (3.5GHz support coming soon) with multiple channel bandwidths from 3.5MHz to 10MHz.
XRO7000 and XRO3000 come with a complete software suite of MAC, device drivers, connection manager, RF calibration software, and a reference design kit. A baseband-RF single chip solution is expected to sample in Q1 2008.
