Supporting cable and reflection measurements in the field, Willtek Communications (Ismaning, Germany) now has a new handheld spectrum analyzer as part of its 9100 Series of multi-function instruments.
The latest Model 9102 is designed for both laboratory and field applications where scalar network and spectrum analysis is needed. The instrument is suited for cable and antenna measurements, as well as for conducting EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) pre-qualification tests.
The 9102, the second model in the series, follows on the heels of the Model 9101, which we recently reviewed.
The latest 9102 analyzer now also permits you to select a tracking generator option. The company says reflection measurement capabilities will also be added during this quarter, too.
Suitable For Scalar Network Analysis
The optional tracking generator and reflection measurement capabilities promise to make the 9102 a fit for scalar network analysis applications, such as measuring amplifier gain against frequency, or measuring filter characteristics.
With a frequency range spanning 100-kHz to 4-GHz, the 9102 portable spectrum analyzer also offers a RBW (resolution bandwidth) spec down to 1 kHz. What's more, with a dynamic range of 70 dB, and a displayed average noise level at -117-dBm, it competes with many lab instruments.
You can also read the 9102's screen, even in outdoor environments, thanks to its large and extra-bright display. Its wide-angle even lets you see results from a side angle. A special click-handle also lets you position the instrument at a favorable angle. Defined pressure points on its keyboard work in conjunction with a menu structure on its user interface.
The new 9102 also includes a number of connectivity hooks. An Ethernet port and an RS-232 serial I/O interface also support remote control. With these I/O hooks you can operate the instrument in automated testing suites, or make remote-site field-strength measurements, for example.
